Joining Troop 50

All boys are welcome to join the Adventure of Scouting.
To become a Boy Scout
- you must be 11 years old or in 6th grade
- You must be under 18 years of age
Most of Troop 50's Scouts come from the Portage Township school district.
Typically we go camping three to four times a year. We learn Scouting and Outdoor Skills such as Camping, Hiking, Backpacking, and Canoeing, as well as practice our citizenship and community service.
Our troop is "Boy Run", which means that the boys decide what they want to do. The adults help them do it.
To visit or join Troop 50 call or text the Scoutmaster Don Zarych at 219-742-7493.
Troop 50 meets every Tuesday night at 7 pm. All boys are welcome to come to any meeting.
A parent or guardian should accompany his/her son to a troop meeting at the time the decision is made to join Troop 50. A membership packet will be given to the parent for review and for completion of the necessary forms. The parent, with son, will meet with the Scoutmaster to discuss Troop 50's Scouting Program, Guidelines and Procedures. The boy will not be permitted to participate in any Scouting function until he is properly registered and all his fees are paid. He may visit up to three troop meetings before joining.
The Membership Packet includes:
- Application &
- Medical Release Form (Medical Form)
- Troop 50 Guidelines and Policies Manual
- Internet and photos permission form
- Troop Resource Sheet
Our current fees are available upon request.
Each Scout's parent or guardian is asked to contribute to the troop and its activities in some way. Many resources and talents are required for a troop to have a quality program. It is expected that each Scout's family unit will contribute to the Scout's Troop and its program.
